Not at all! Mahjong 101 classes are designed specifically for beginners. I'll teach you everything you need to know to get started.

Each beginner class includes instruction on the basics of American Mahjong, game etiquette, reading the National Mah Jongg League card, and guided hands so you can start playing with confidence.

Most classes and guided play sessions last approximately 2 hours.

I release classes about three weeks in advance, and many classes fill quickly. If you don't see any available spots, check back soon—new classes, guided play sessions, and special events are added regularly.

I announce each month's schedule on Instagram and update my booking page as new events are released. If you're eager to get started, private lessons are a great option and can often be scheduled sooner than public classes.

Most students feel comfortable playing after Mahjong 101 and a few guided play sessions. Like any game, confidence comes with practice, but you'll be playing hands and having fun from your very first class.

Just yourself! I provide all of the Mahjong sets, racks, tiles, mats, and instructional materials needed during class.

A current National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card is not required for Mahjong 101 classes. However, once you begin playing regularly, I highly recommend purchasing one.

I strongly recommend purchasing your card directly from the National Mah Jongg League at https://nationalmahjonggleague.org.

Unfortunately, many cards sold through third-party sellers, including some listings on Amazon, are not official NMJL cards and may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Learning and playing with an inaccurate card can be confusing and frustrating for new players.

Yes! I bring everything needed for instruction and play, including Mahjong sets, racks, mats, and teaching materials.

Most of my classes are held at Palmera House but locations may vary. Each event listing includes the specific venue and details.

Because class sizes are limited and many events sell out, cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the event to receive a credit toward a future class. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event are non-refundable and non-transferable.

I recommend joining the waitlist whenever available. If a spot opens, I'll contact waitlisted participants in the order they joined.
